Mango has officially become the sixth fresh fruit of Vietnam exported to the US market after litchi, longan, rambutan, milkweed and dragon fruit.

Vietnam’s Mango Export In General

Vietnam has become the 13th largest mango exporter within the world. Vietnam exported mangoes to over 40 countries, including most countries: China, Korea, Australia, Japan, Europe and New Zealand. In which, China is the largest market, accounting for 84.6%.

More encouragingly, the output of mangoes imported from Vietnam into the US market in recent years has been increasing sharply. The worth is approximately double that of other countries: 2.2 USD/kg compared to the typical price of 1.26 USD/ton.

Mango is a very popular crop, grown from north to south. The total area is about 87,000 hectares and the output is more than 969,000 tons/year. The region with the highest mango production is the Mekong Delta, including: Tien Giang, Dong Thap, An Giang, Ben Tre, Can Tho, Vinh Long, etc.

Vietnam has 46 varieties of mango. Mango varieties with commercial value include, exported mangoes:

In particular, the National Office of Intellectual Property has granted a certificate of trademark protection for the most popular and economically valuable mango variety, Hoa Loc mango. Hoa Loc sand mango was also granted a national certificate of geographical indication in 2012.

Hoa Loc sand mango is a famous specialty mango of the Mekong Delta, one of the main fruits of Tien Giang. Hoa Loc sand mango is a specialty fruit of Tien Giang province, and is the first fruit product of the Mekong Delta to be granted geographical indication protection.

When raw, the fruit is green and has a sour taste. When ripe, it will turn yellow, orange. The fruit has bright yellow flesh, firm texture, smooth and low fiber, delicious and aromatic. 

Yen Chau Mango
